Let me start off by saying that this is my second HRAP from Hori, because they make such great products I had to come back for more. I never thought I would go as crazy for arcade sticks until I bought my first one which was a Hori Real Arcade Pro for Xbox 360. They just make a very solid and well built arcade stick. As fighting game fanatic there is just no other way to go!
First off, the stick has a very solid feel to it and it’s pretty heavy which is a GOOD thing. It gives you the sense that you could mash buttons all day and pretty much abuse the thing and it’s not going to affect it in a negative way. You can tell that it has excellent craftmanship and a great finish that doesn’t scratch easily.
Then there are the controls/buttons. Authentic top of the shelf semeitsu buttons are extremely crisp to the touch, which provides for great sensitivity. The stick is smooth and the gate feels more round as opposed to the square gate from the previous HRAP. It is also easy to mod, I put on a clear bubble top for a personal touch in less than 5 minutes. Although, it looks great stock as well.
The Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE is one of my favorite sticks right there along side the Street Fighter 4 TE if not my absolute favorite.

I pretty much agree with Donovan Myers’s review. It comes down to personal preference, but I do prefer the Seimitsu buttons on this Hori stick, even though the curved layout does take getting used to.
Here is some other information not covered by the the other reviews thus far.
1) The Madcatz Tournament Fighting Stick is a little heavier than this Hori stick, but the Hori stick is sufficiently heavy to be placed on a tabletop or lap.
2) The Hori stick does not have a built-in storage space for the cord, but it does come with two small cable guides with adhesives that can be placed anywhere on the stick to secure the cable. The guides are in a small bag taped to the big wrapping bag that covers the joystick, so be sure to find the guides before you throw out the box materials.
3) The square gate in this Hori stick appears to have slightly rounded corners, so I had an easier time doing quarter-circle motions. With the Madcatz stick, I often rammed the stick into the corner of it square gate.

Every person has their own opinion, so take this for what it is worth: but I think this is the best product on the market for those of us wanting to play arcade games at home. I have Gauntlet, TRON, and the Namco collection on my 360 and the HORI stick just makes everything like it was down at the pool hall I grew up near. Even better, it’s TOUGH. My kids are smaller, and they tend to beat on things pretty badly, and this item takes it and more (don’t throw it though when you get killed on Galaga–nothing can take being thrown through the television). It is heavy, it won’t move around on you when you are playing–set it on the floor or a nice tv tray and you are at the scene. I want to find a roller ball for Centipede and old style football with the X and O’s like we had in the 80’s, I am hoping HORI finds its way to do that for us too. Nice job.

Very high quality stick right here! perfect fit, perfect build and the Seimitsu parts are PERFECT for 2-d fighters and SHMUPS(shoot ‘em up games). I love Sanwa parts as well, especially for 3-d fighters like Virtua Fighter 5 & Tekken 6, but after experiencing the greatness of this stick I have definitely jumped on the Seimitsu bandwagon!
Love the stick and in my opinion the best non-custom stick on the market, fantastic addition to my custom Arcade-In-A-Box!

I play super street fighter 2 turbo and street fighter 4. And I can do combos, specials, super on this stick without any problem.
Piano input with the Seimitsu buttons are no problem at all. The Seimitsu buttons have very good feedback and a loud click so you can easily confirm your action. The Seimitsu stick is also very good. No complains there.
Also, Windows XP detects this stick without any problem, no drivers installation required.
SF4 for PC can detect this joystick and I don’t have to change any settings in the game to play.
The quality of the unit and the construction are excellent and this thing is huge compared to my older ps2 hori fight stick and the tekken wireless stick.
Things that can use some improvements
1) The button layout is too close to the stick. (the TE stick has the same problem)
note: hori will have a new real arcade pro V3 SA with viewlex layout coming out soon but it is for PS3 only
2) No turbo functions.
I know a lot of people will flame me but I don’t play in tournament and I only play casually for fun. My hands are not godly like daigo so without turbo I can’t play E. Honda and ChunLi effectively. For a stick in this price range, I don’t understand why they don’t add turbo function as a standard. The PS3 SA version has it, my old ps hori stick has it, the madcatz TE has it. (I was told that since Microsoft charges Hori and Madcatz a hefty license fee for xbox360 peripheral, hori has to cut some corners to save cost)
The bottom line is, this stick has better build quality than the TE stick and it is 35% cheaper, albeit lacking some extra functions. Both sticks are excellent and you won’t be disappointed.
