The only time I’d played this game was the downloadable trial. Loved the fun, smart platforming action and stupidly cute customizable options. I bought the GOTY edition today and have been playing for the past few hours. LBP is a crazy-fun game, however the downloadable content you get for free with the GOTY edition? I don’t think it’s worth whatever you’d save buying the original game used. Most of the user-created levels (and consider that these are the best of the user-created levels) aren’t great and don’t hold a candle to the professional-designed courses. Wish I’d bought the original version used. Pay heed to my cautionary tale; buy the older version used unless you’re kind of a fanatic about costumes–you get (I think? I didn’t count) 8 costumes free with the GOTY edition. If anyone has a reason that the GOTY edition is indeed better, I’d love to hear it since I’ve got a copy!

LittleBigPlanet is a great game, enjoyable even by people who don’t normally like video games. It is classified as a “puzzle platformer”, meaning each level is a puzzle to solve (what to do next isn’t always obvious) and it is a platformer, meaning you jump to and from suspended platforms or over obstacles etc. Personally I didn’t care much for the puzzle aspect, and for people like me there are videos of each level at YouTube, which I watched when I got stuck.
The scenes in this game are beautiful, the music is wonderful, and the physics is mostly realistic, and the overall beauty and experience offered by this game reminds me of the “It’s a small world” ride at Disneyland. The game is enjoyable by kids and adults alike, and the whole family can play together if you have more than one controller.
There are 25 awesome levels (there are eight “Creator Curators”, and there are three levels per Creator Curator except the last which has four, adding up to 25). The description of this game says there are 50 levels, but that is probably counting the mini levels (mostly useless) and the included user-created levels. I didn’t like the user-created levels — some of them are playable, but they didn’t have the Disney-esque experience of the levels created by the game makers themselves.
One thing I didn’t like about the game is that the depiction of USA in this game isn’t that great. A construction site, a car wrecking yard, people speaking in ungrammatical English etc. LittleBigPlanet was made by a UK company.

I purchased this for my 6-yr-old son, my entire family is addicted to it and we have given the bug to another family. Fun on all levels, challenging as well.

I wanted something else I could play with the kids and this one totally delivers. I’ve got little kids and I love that the controls are easy enough for them to handle, but the community levels offer a wide range of difficulty, so there’s something we can play together. I haven’t spent much time creating my own levels yet, but I’ve done a number of the tutorials and that seems very powerful as well.
I don’t see this game getting old anytime soon.

Undoubtedly one of the best titles you’ll come across on the PS3, Little Big Planet is one of those games that comes around every once in a blue moon that is just pure, unadulturated fun. Re-released in this Game of the Year Edition, which packs in a slew of downloadable content to go along with the original game itself, Little Big Planet is now even more fun than it was when it was first released last year, and still brimming with whimsical, platforming goodness. If you already own Little Big Planet and purchased any or all of the downloadable content from Playstation Network, then there isn’t any reason to pick up this Game of the Year Edition, but if you missed out on Little Big Planet the first time around, then by all means pick this game up. It remains one of the best, exclusive titles you can find on the PS3, and is an absolute must own for any and every PS3 owner.
